Download MarkyDowner
Free, with no account and no subscription. Your documents are plain markdown files in a folder you choose, and they never leave your computer.

Your computer will warn you the first time
Code-signing certificates cost hundreds of dollars a year, and MarkyDowner is free. Without one, Windows and macOS both warn about apps from an unrecognized developer. Here’s how to get past it.
Windows
A blue “Windows protected your PC” screen appears. Click More info, then Run anyway. MarkyDowner installs for your user account only, so it never asks for administrator access.
macOS
Open the .dmg and drag MarkyDowner to Applications. The first launch says the developer can’t be verified. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about MarkyDowner, and click Open Anyway. You only do this once.
What gets installed
The app, and a MarkyDowner folder in your Documents where your files live. You can move that folder anywhere, or point the app at an existing folder of markdown you already have.
What it sends
Nothing. There’s no account, no telemetry, and no sync. The only network request MarkyDowner ever makes is checking whether a newer version exists.
